The extension does not appear in Safari
Open Safari's settings, go to Extensions, and turn on Real Cookie Cleaner. On iPhone and iPad the path is Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions. The app itself cannot check whether the extension is on — on iOS there is no way for it to ask — which is why it says so rather than showing a green tick it has not verified.
The button says the site needs access
The extension asks for access one website at a time, only when you use it there. This is deliberate: it never requests permanent access to every site you visit. Grant it for the site you are on and the clean will run.
I cleaned a site and got signed out
Cookies are what keep you signed in, so clearing them signs you out. That is the intended effect, and it cannot be undone. Two things help:
- Careful mode keeps the cookies that hold your sign-ins and clears the rest.
- Exclusions protect a site completely. A site on that list is never changed by a clean. Add your bank, your mail, anything you would rather not have to sign into again.
My exclusions are different on my Mac and my iPhone
That is expected today. The list is stored on each device separately and does not sync between them, because it never leaves the device it was made on. If you want the same list everywhere, add the sites on each device.
A site address is refused when I add it in the app
The app accepts only addresses it is certain it can match exactly —
plain names like example.com. Addresses with non-Latin letters,
IPv6 addresses, and a few unusual forms are refused there on purpose: storing
one that the cleaning engine would not recognise would show you a protected
site that is not actually protected. Add those from Safari's extension
settings instead, where the browser resolves the address for us.
Something went wrong and I want to report it
The extension's settings page has an activity log — the last 50 cleans over the past 7 days, with outcomes and counts. It holds no website addresses and no cookie contents, so it is safe to copy into an email. Attaching it makes a report far easier to act on.
